MagnifyB are frequently told by e-commerce website owners “Oh, I simply copy the text for the products on my website from the suppliers brochure!” This is abolsutlely and utterly the wrong thing to do for so many reasons.

For search engines to see a website as important and list a site high in a search query, copied text is a big no-no! Search engines like uniquely written content. If every website selling the same products is displaying the same product content a search query list is, quite frankly, uninviting to the user. Search engines want their search query list to be interesting and inviting. For this reason content is king. Unique page copy or page text  is a major piece of the SEO jigsaw puzzle that will aid a websites organic listing positioning.

Getting keywords or key phrases into  text is important. However there are some do’s and don’ts for writing keywords in text and emboldening words.

Do research the keywords and phrases users would type to find your particular product in a search query.

Do embolden your key phrases to give emphasis to both the search engines and your website visitors.

Don’t keyword or key phrase stuff. This means don’t add  key phrases too often. Keywords and phrases should be part of a sentence and form a sentence that is legible and easy to read. Keyword stuffing will have an adverse effect to how the search engines rank the importance of a website’s  copy. They don’t like it!

Don’t embolden all your text. Emboldening all your text doesn’t make the key phrases ‘stick out’ from the other text

Writing unique copy applies to any website not just e-commerce sites. So have a look at your website and see if you can improve the copy.
